About
At Steven Avery's 2007 trial, Cingular records custodian Laura Schadrie testified on Day 12 about Teresa Halbach's October 31, 2005 phone records. She identified calls involving Auto Trader and calls listed to Barb Janda, Steven Schmitz, and George Zipperer. She also identified a 4:35 p.m. incoming call attributed to Avery that the exhibit listed as lasting 13 seconds. Schadrie said she did not know whether that call was completed, noted that the exhibit showed no cell-site hit, and did not offer a technical opinion about it.
On cross-examination, Jerome Buting tested what the records could show. Schadrie agreed they did not reveal call content or establish whether the 4:35 p.m. call went to voicemail. She confirmed that the underlying exhibit did not itself name the call recipients shown in a separate summary, which she had not prepared. When Buting asked what opened-message records through November 5 would mean for Halbach's voicemail, the State objected on foundation grounds, and Schadrie did not answer that question in the described exchange.
When cross-examination resumed, Schadrie clarified that blank dialed-number fields reflected incoming calls, not necessarily calls made using *67. Counsel explained that the summary exhibits substituted names for numbers and drew on information beyond Schadrie's knowledge. The defense stipulated to the names but continued to dispute the conflicting zero- and 13-second durations shown for the 4:35 p.m. call.
