About
During Steven Avery's 2007 trial, juror Nancy Stienmetz answered the court's Day 21 questions about publicity and outside contact. She reported hearing one juror discuss his wife watching coverage and wanting to tell him what happened. She also said Barbara Schmidt had described her husband's efforts to press his opinions on her and had said she read television news tickers. Stienmetz said she had not heard specific outside information or opinions relayed to the jury.
Before deliberations, the court designated Stienmetz an alternate juror and said she would be sequestered separately, available if a deliberating juror could not continue. On Day 25, the court asked whether she had heard its instructions and was willing to resume a juror's role. On Day 27, the court asked whether the verdicts it had read were hers. The excerpts do not include her answers to those later questions.
