Deputy Peter O'Connor testified in Steven Avery's 2007 trial about the first Avery Road roadblock and vehicles leaving the property. Questioned about the early access record, he said he had not started a November 5 log and could not confirm from a garbled dispatch replay how many vehicles he had reported passing before the roadblock.
Peter O'Connor
Deputy who staffed an early Avery Road roadblock during the search of the property.
About
Deputy Peter O'Connor testified in Steven Avery's 2007 trial about establishing a roadblock at Avery Road on November 5. He said he arrived near the road at about 10:54 a.m., set up the roadblock about two minutes later, and detained six vehicles leaving during his assignment. He believed two vehicles had passed before he began stopping traffic. He remained outside the property and did not take part in the searches.
On cross-examination, Dean Strang used a dispatch recording to test O'Connor's account of those early vehicle movements. O'Connor recalled that two vehicles got past him, but said the replay was too garbled for him to identify the number he had reported. He distinguished his November 5 roadside duty from his November 10 assignment to log people entering and leaving.
On redirect, O'Connor located the vehicle stop on an aerial photograph that the court admitted as Exhibit 127. On recross, he said he had not started a November 5 access log and did not know whether another officer had.
