Nicole Sturm testified in Steven Avery's 2007 trial about photographing a covered RAV-4 during a volunteer search of the Avery salvage yard and checking its locked doors. Questioning focused on the limits of what she could see inside and what she observed officers do before she left.
Nicole Sturm
Volunteer searcher who photographed Teresa Halbach's covered RAV4 at Avery Salvage Yard.
About
Nicole Sturm accompanied her mother, Pamela Sturm, on a volunteer search of the Avery salvage yard. In Avery's trial, Nicole testified that she saw a RAV-4 with salvage parts and branches against and over it, photographed it, and used a tissue while checking doors she found locked. She said she could not yet definitely identify it as Teresa Halbach's vehicle. Questioning clarified that she pulled back what she believed was a salvage part to reach a handle, did not check the rear door handle, and had a limited view of the dark interior because of tint and glare. She said she saw no blood but had no flashlight, and she did not see an officer touch or try to open the vehicle while she was present. In Dassey's trial, Karen Halbach described Nicole and Pamela's search and said they later reported finding Teresa's vehicle.
