About
Sergeant Andrew L. Colborn testified in Steven Avery's trial about searches of Avery's property. He described searching a bedroom desk and said Lieutenant James Lenk pointed out a key on the floor after returning to the room. Colborn denied planting evidence. Defense questioning addressed the key's omission from his report, his apparent license-plate call, and his recollection of investigative activity; the defense had also cited his deposition in Avery's civil suit as a reason to scrutinize his later search work. Colborn said repeating a plate inquiry helped him remember vehicle and owner information, but he could not place its timing relative to his November 3 visit. In Brendan Dassey's trial, William Tyson identified Colborn as part of the trailer search team and testified that Colborn photographed the interior before searching and found handcuffs and leg irons in Avery's bedroom.
